When looking at a heart rhythm strip, the easiest place to start is to look at the rate. Determine whether it is normal, bradycardia, or tachycardia. This will help you eliminate some rhythms right away. From here, look at the regularity. Pick a spot, I usually do from the "R" in QRS and count how many squares there are from one R to the next. I do this for all of the QRS visible. From here, look at the p waves, is there only one before the QRS and are they upright, uniform etc. Measure the PR interval and QRS duration. This will give you all of the information you need to help you figure out what rhythm you are looking at.
Hope this helps!
